Submission of the CHUM 2010 project to the Office de consultation
publique de Montréal (OPCM), based on a preliminary concept,
three thematic workshops and the submission of briefs.
November 2006 – Unveiling of the CHUM
Functional and Technical Program (FTP). The FTP explains down to
the smallest detail all functions to be taken on by the CHUM and
all associated activities. Start of work to define the technical
specifications according to the FTP.
April 7, 2006 – Official launch of the
operational phase of the projects. Submission of costs,
confirmation of how the projects are to proceed and authorization
to undertake preliminary work before construction.
March 24, 2005 – Official announcement
for the construction of the future CHUM at 1000 Saint-Denis.

– Hearings of the special parliamentary commission.
February 15, 2005 – Unanimous adoption
of a resolution by the CHUM Board of Directors to mandate the Chair
of the CHUM Board of Directors, his Deputy Chair and the Chair of
the CHUM 2010 committee, in addition to the Director General, to
present the CHUM 2010 file before the parliamentary commission with
respect to the objectives decided upon at the December 6, 2004
session.
February 10, 2005 – Announcement of a
parliamentary commission on the choice of location of the future
CHUM by the Minister of Health and Social Services of Quebec.
February 2, 2005 – Submission of the
Couture-Saint-Pierre report.
January 7, 2005 – Creation of a
committee to analyze two development projects for the CHUM: one at
1000 Saint-Denis and the other at the Outrement rail yards, made up
of two independent experts, Armand Couture and Guy
Saint-Pierre.
December 9, 2004 – Submission of the
joint report of the CHUM and Université de Montréal
to the Minister of Health and Social Services of Quebec.
December 6, 2004 – Unanimous adoption of
the resolution of the CHUM Board of Directors to leave it to the
government to decide between the scenarios proposed by the CHUM and
the Université de Montréal, while respecting the
guidelines identified by the CHUM since the beginning of the
project.
June 29, 2004 – Submission by the Rector
of Université de Montréal of its plan for the
“Cité du savoir et de la santé” on the
Outrement rail yards site to the CHUM Board of Directors.
June 23, 2004 – Submission of the
recommendation of the Minister of Health and Social Services to the
National Assembly, confirming the abandonment of the construction
project at 6000 Saint-Denis, thus favouring the 1000 Saint-Denis
site.
December 15, 2003 – Submission of the
implementation plans for the CHUM and MUHC to the Minister of
Health and Social Services.
October 29, 2003 – Constitution of the
Commission d’analyse des projets d’implantation du CHUM
et du CUSM, co-chaired by Daniel Johnson and Brian Mulroney.

December 19, 2001 – Renewal by the
Cabinet of the memorandum of understanding concerning the
establishment of Montreal teaching hospitals, the CHUM and the
MUHC, on two separate sites.
May 24, 2000 – Creation by the
Government of Quebec of the Société
d’implantation du Centre hospitalier de
l’Université de Montréal (SICHUM), a
proprietary corporation with the mission to design, plan and build,
at 6000 Saint-Denis, an innovative, cutting-edge health campus to
house all the activities, staff and clienteles of the Centre
hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal.
January 25, 2000 – Announcement by the
Minister of Health and Social Services of the establishment of the
CHUM in a new building on a single site at 6000 Saint-Denis, at a
cost of approximately $700 million.
December 17, 1999 – Announcement by
the Premier of Quebec, Lucien Bouchard, and the Minister of Health
and Social Services, Pauline Marois, of the government’s
decision to proceed with the plan for a university hospital centre
on a single site.
October 1, 1996 – Legal merging of
the three hospitals.
September 1996 – Signing of a memorandum
of understanding by the directors of the three institutions and
representatives of the MSSS, Université de Montréal
and the Régie régionale de Montréal Centre,
valid until December 2001, defining the general parameters of the
configuration of the CHUM.3
February 1, 1995 – Cabinet decision to
set up a university hospital for adult medicine affiliated with
Université de Montréal, made up of the
Hôtel-Dieu de Montréal, Notre-Dame and Saint-Luc
hospitals.2
1988 – The board of inquiry into health
and social services (the Rochon Commission) points out the need to
develop specific policies to rationalize the development of
university hospital centres.1
