| Welcome to the CHUM Research Centre |
The Research Centre of the
University of Montreal Hospital Centre (CRCHUM) is the
largest of the University of Montreal’s affiliated research
centres. Our research activities draw on large cohorts of patients
treated at the hospital centre, on 1,300 researchers,
professionals, technicians and support staff, on life sciences
students, on cutting-edge technological platforms, and on an
international network of academic, public and private-sector
partners.
Our mission is to generate knowledge along two complementary
axes : upstream of the health system, it is a performance-oriented
centre encompassing basic, clinical and epidemiological research;
downstream, the CRCHUM evaluates the effectiveness of therapies and
their impact and ensures knowledge transfer with a view to
improving the health of the population. This mission is closely
linked to the Hospital Centre’s other missions, namely, care
provision, teaching, health promotion and technology
evaluation.
We have developed an integrated translational and
multidisciplinary research model to explore the mechanisms of
pathogenesis, to develop health promotion and prevention
strategies, to establish criteria for the prediction of health
risks and disease development, and to develop, implement and
evaluate new therapies.
Our research activities are grouped
into eight themes:
cancer; cardiometabolic; global health;
infection-immunology-inflammation; health care systems and
services; musculoskeletal diseases; neuroscience; risks to
health.
